RECYCLING

The historic mineral extraction associated with the Estate has left a number of large voids in the ground. These voids have planning consent for inert backfill before being restored to agricultural use.

More recently the model shift to recycle material has resulted in opportunities for recycling waste building materials and waste soils, all of which traditionally went to landfill.

The Estate has entered in to a joint venture agreement with a land fill operator whom has installed large earth handling and wash plant equipment to recover recyclable aggregates from inert waste. As much as 70% of material sent to landfill can now be recovered and is sold back into the construction industry. The operation compliments the Estates quarry business and ensures that building contractors can source all of their aggregate supplies from the Estate.
