Woodland & Forestry

The Estate woodland comprises a mix of commercial plantations (mainly soft woods) along with amenity and sporting woodland (mainly hardwoods).

All of the Estates Woodland is included within the Estate 20 year Forestry Management Plan that ensures that the woodland habitat is maintained and improved for both timber quality and habitat.

Commercial woodland is felled on a rotational basis with the proceeds being sold to timber mills. Much of the waste product is ‘chipped’ and sold to power energy generating power plants. The harvest timber from the amenity woodland is sold as firewood and the waste sold for ‘chip’.

The Estate is fortunate to have a small number of commercial hardwood stands (mainly Oak) this timber is carefully selected when it reaches maturity and individual trees are often sold in full lengths.
